Helpful Advice & Tips

A Write Impression always seeks to assist our customers with their needs. Therefore, here are some general tips for some of the areas which will affect you.

Workforce & Organizational Development:

Did you know that:

  • Over 70% of all employees respond to competitors' job offers during work hours?
  • Voluntary resignations are at the highest level in over 20 years?
  • Nearly 50% of all middle managers are either currently looking for another job or plan to do so in the near future?
  • Corporations lose large portions of revenue from employee turnover costs - indirect costs (i.e. dissatisfied customers, employee theft, reduced company reputation, etc.) and direct costs (i.e. candidate interviews, new hire training, new hire processing, etc.).
  • Many people confess that they left previos employers due to bad relationships with members of management rather than for reasons related with the job itself.

Here are some key elements in maximizing human capital and managing employee retention:

  1. The most crucial are the 3 T's - time, tools, and training.
  2. Your best employees, which you want to retain, are those who show company loyalty by seeking frequent opportunities to learn and grow with the company in their careers, knowledge, and skills.
  3. The perception of employee fairness and equitable treatment play a major factor in employee retention.
  4. Ensure that your employee's talents and skills are being utilized to their greatest potential.
  5. The relationship and communication, whether positive or negative, between a supervisor/manager and the subordinate will determine the longevity of each employee's career.

Cover Letter Preparation:

  • Since your cover letter is the initial impression which may determine the outcome if your resume is even reviewed, your cover letter needs to be equally as impressive as your resume
  • Most employers allot less than 20 seconds reviewing your cover letter so be brief and to the point and only one page
  • Besides your signature, never handwrite anything
  • Do not fold or bend; if placing in an envelope, use one large enough not to compromise this

Resume and CV Preparation:

  • Research company and competencies of the position in order to key in on the skills you possess which are desired by the employer
  • Identify your most important skills
  • Justify accomplishments - this helps an employer calculate how much of an asset you will be to them
  • Absolutely no typos and grammatical errors allowed

Interview Etiquette Techniques:

  • Relax! As hard as this may be, just remember that if this position is truly for you, it will be
  • Attitude and confidence speak loudly - even when you don't say a word
  • Stand on integrity (your moral and ethical character) - this important factor builds trust with employers
  • Don't lie - you'd be surprised how far honesty and a great personality can take you
  • Maintain good eye contact throughout the interview
  • Wear the proper attire for interview - better to overdress than to underdress
  • Arrive 10 - 15 minutes earlier than appointment - to be early is to be on time; however, to be right on time is to be late
